Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr introduced the city’s new police chief to the public Wednesday morning. James Craig has been hired for the post, after serving the past two years as the Police Chief in Cincinnati. Craig grew up in Detroit and started his police career here. He says he’s glad to be home.

“I always had a goal to become a police chief….but particularly a police chief here in Detroit. I held true to that goal and this is a day of true excitement.”

Craig spent 28 years with the Los Angeles Police Department before becoming police chief in Portland, Maine. His resignation from the Cincinnati Police Department officially takes place on June 22nd.
