Friends Of The Rouge Lose Source Of Federal Funds

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

The group called Friends of the Rouge River has worked for decades to restore the waterway from one of the most polluted in the country to one where residents can again safely fish or canoe.

The group has been so successful though, that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ended a grant for the Rouge River Wet Weather Demonstration Project. The project provided substantial funding for the Friends of the Rouge.

Aimee Lalonde-Norman is the organization’s Executive Director. She’s only been on the job for three months. Lalonde-Norman spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn about the group’s mission and what the Friends of the Rouge hope to accomplish without the federal funds.
