Marshmallows! From The Sky!

April 18, 2014

Yes, those really are marshmallows.

"There's a total between both sites of about 20,000 marshmallows that are actually dropped."

Wayne County Executive Bob Ficano.

This is a day many kids in Metro Detroit look forward to. It’s Wayne County’s annual marshmallow drop. A helicopter will fly over Elizabeth Park in Trenton and Nankin Mills in Westland and release thousands of the puffy treats into the air. As the sugary morsels hit the ground, hundreds of children waiting below run out to collect them and turn them in for prizes. It’s a tradition that started 30 years ago. Wayne County Executive Bob Ficano tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller it began when county park officials decided to stage a family-friendly event around Easter.
