Investors Put Up Big Money for Oakland County Businesses

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

The Oakland County Business Center helped small businesses acquire nearly $ 23 million in loans last year, according to a new report from the county.

That’s triple the amount they received in 2012.

The Director of Economic Development and Community Affairs in Oakland County is Irene Spanos.

She says the Business Center helps companies network with commercial loan officers.

“Cause often times small businesses will be talking to one loan officer at a bank but it’s not really the appropriate small business loan officer. We have the network of the small business lenders in the region … and actually throughout southeast Michigan … that we make the right introductions to the right people and make sure the businesses are ready to start talking to the lenders.”

Spanos says the county also assisted 19 start-up companies in 2013.

She says those ventures received nearly $ 40 million in capital investment.
