GM CEO Faces Congress: Analyst Says Contrition Is A Must

April 1, 2014

"I think she's done a lot of things right. This will be the big test, though, going to Washington."

Automotive analyst Michelle Krebs on Mary Barra's appearance before Congress.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra goes before Congress Tuesday to answer questions about the automaker’s recall of 2.5-million vehicles with potentially bad ignition switches. 12 deaths have been linked to the defect, which GM learned about more than a decade ago. Lawmakers want to know why the company waited so long to issue a recall, and whether GM is criminally liable for failing to fix the problem sooner. Automotive analyst Michelle Krebs tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller that Barra has already shown that GM is apologetic, but will need to show more than that.
