"It's not that money wins all the time, it just wins about 95 percent of the time."

Rich Robinson of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.

Political Action Committees and Super PACs raised a record 68-million campaign dollars in Michigan over the past two years. That’s 31 percent more than the previous record set in the 2006 election cycle. The Michigan Campaign Finance Network says PAC money is now showing up in local elections, not just state and federal races. Executive Director Rich Robinson says Super PACs raised about $3.5 million in the Detroit mayor’s race in 2013. Robinson tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller it’s the first time he can recall a Super PAC backing a specific candidate in a local race, but it won’t be the last time it happens.
