Cold Weather Brings Frostbite Danger

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

With the bitter cold Metro Detroit has seen in recent days…area doctors are watching for cases of frostbite.

If it’s cold enough, just a few minutes’ exposure can cause real damage to fingers and toes.

Doctor Julie Sengstock is a past president of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association. She spoke with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn.

Sengstock says frostbite is a real problem this time of year.

She recommends staying inside if it’s extremely cold. But, she says if you have to go outside, dress in loose, water-repellant clothing, and remember mittens keep your hands warmer than gloves.
