DPS Offers Incentives for Students on Count Day

Detroit Public Schools are offering incentives for students to attend the state-wide count day Wednesday.

Pizza parties and gift cards are among the rewards for attending count day. Parents can also have breakfast or lunch with their children.

Michelle Zdrodowski is the chief communications officer for DPS.

“Count day is critically important to Detroit Public Schools because two days a year the state of Michigan asks us to audit our student population, if you will, or count our student population, and that is what our per pupil funding is based on,” she said.

Zdrodowski says 80% of the funding is based on the fall count, while 10% is based on the winter count.

She says Huntington Bank will also give $1,000 to the school with the highest count day attendance.
