Wayne County Foreclosures Up, $200M Owed In Back Taxes

Wayne County is trying to collect millions of dollars in unpaid property taxes from people who’ve fallen behind and face foreclosure. The Treasurer’s office is setting aside some time this month to work with property owners so they don’t lose their homes. The county has taxpayer assistance workshops on Saturdays in February. Chief Deputy Treasurer David Szymanski tells WDET's Pat Batcheller the $200-million in unpaid taxes owed to the county is needed to pay for vital services.
