Hearings Offer Help To Wayne County Property Owners In Foreclosure

January 30, 2015

By Pat Batcheller

"This year we have programs we've never had before that actually allow us to reduce interest, and in some cases, reduce taxes paid by people who own and live in their homes."

David Szymanski, Wayne County Deputy Treasurer.

Detroit’s neighborhoods have yet to recover from the national mortgage crisis, and more than 60-thousand properties in the city are in tax foreclosure. The Wayne County Treasurer has started hearings at Cobo Center, giving people a chance to pay their tax bills before they lose their properties. Deputy Treasurer David Szymanski tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller that property owners give officials a legal reason why the county should stop foreclosure.
