"We need to create a system where there’s no wrong door."

Tom Watkins, CEO of Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority.

Governor Rick Snyder wants to merge two of the state’s largest agencies: the Department of Community Health and the Department of Human Services. He proposed the merger during his State of the State address Tuesday night. Snyder says his executive order should mean less dependency on government programs and better service for those who receive assistance from Lansing. Former state mental health director Tom Watkins supports the merger. He’s now the C-E-O of the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority. Watkins spoke with WDET’s Pat Batcheller about the merger.
