Between the aisles of ready-to-assemble furniture…musicians readied themselves to perform for unsuspecting shoppers at IKEA in Canton. As part of the symphony’s upcoming ‘Neighborhood Concert Series’…the D-S-O staged a flash mob to raise awareness of the upcoming concert. Shannon Orme is a clarinetist with the D-S-O and helped coordinate the flash-mob. She says she’d like to do more surprise performances like this in the future.

“The musicians enjoy it and people and the community enjoy it. So, I…I think it’s a great way people to see and orchestra performance and brighten their day.”

The repertoire for the flash mob performance included Sousa’s ‘Stars and Stripes’ and Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’. The ‘Neighborhood Concert Series’ premieres at Canton’s Village Theater at Cherry Hill on January 17th.
